In Spanish, firme means firm, steady, strong, and solid — the very support system first-generation Latino college students often lack as they navigate higher education. In Chicano slang, firme carries a deeper cultural meaning: something that is authentic, trustworthy, “the real deal,” and confidently powerful. It is a word used to affirm credibility, resilience, and pride.

That layered meaning mirrors the heart of our organization. Firme DFW provides scholarships to first-generation Latino college students and walks alongside them throughout college through mentorship, professional connections, and hands-on workshops in job interviewing, networking, and career readiness. We are not a one-time scholarship — we are a steady presence.
